Memphis, Tenn. (November 19, 2012) – Taylor White, a senior at The Soulsville Charter School, has been named a C Spire Wireless Academic All-Stars Award winner.
White is one of six students in the Greater Memphis area who received this week’s award for Mathematics. C Spire Wireless will recognize more than 160 students during the 2012-2013 school year. White and other weekly winners will be honored at a luncheon at the Hilton Memphis, Thursday, May 2, 2013.
White is a talented mathematics student who intuitively grasps algebra and calculus principles. She holds a 4.94 weighted grade point average, scored 25 on the ACT with a 32 on the math portion of the test and scored in the 99th percentile on both Algebra I and Algebra II end-of-course assessments. White demonstrates relentless grit in working to understand difficult concepts and to apply these to contextual problems. After mastering math rules, she frequently tutors others, breaking down mathematical material into student-friendly language.
White matches academic performance with an impressive extracurricular resume, captaining both the basketball and lacrosse teams. She also leads in club lacrosse, competing with top athletes from around the city and state. As a top student-athlete, she serves as a role model and mentor to younger students.
The C Spire Wireless Academic All-Stars program was conceived to identify and recognize high school students for excellence in academics, school leadership and community service. Now in its 7th year, the C Spire Academic All-Stars Awards are presented weekly for 28 weeks during the academic year from nominations submitted by school administrators.
Judges include educators from Rhodes College, The University of Memphis, LeMoyne-Owen College and Christian Brothers University. Each week during the year, C Spire Academic All-Stars are announced in The Commercial Appeal.
